3 Important Business Intelligence Trends in 2017

Most prominent industries in the world of today are subject to the fluctuations of business intelligence trends and technological development. They’re an extremely valuable movement to keep track of, especially for any developer-based company, as many industries have been greatly altered, grown or shrunk in relation to these trends.

With the coming of Facebook, social media grew into a blossoming marketing tool, whereas the availability of online media, in turn, decreased revenue of their predecessors. Even bookstores felt the blow. The Kindle and e-books, for example, incentivised franchises like Exclusive Books to completely adapt their rationale to something more social in order to stay relevant. Business trends then are not to be taken lightly – by any industry!

Acting as guidelines into which fields of industry attention could be payed to, BI trends have a massive impact on how companies and businesses map out growth strategies. These trends do, however, fluctuate in importance as time goes on. So, what are the results of BI trend analysis from last year to this year?

Reassuringly enough, not much has changed in the hierarchy, signalling steady growth in fields that have already gained much investment. Here are examples of a few minor changes that developers can push for this year:

  1. Predictive analytics (data mining) still enjoys an above average position in popularity for business, and has seen significant growth since last year. Data mining is still one of the most powerful tools for establishing effective business strategies and internal processes.
  2. Self-service BI has also seen substantial growth, as business users take more and more power into their own hands when dealing with corporate data, even if they have no background in statistical analysis. Self-service BI comes in at a close second to data discovery.
  3. Data discovery still tops the chart, as creating and using interactive reports and accessible data from an array of sources is still the most valuable BI trend. Investing in applications that provides users (and company stakeholders on all levels) with visualized data empower them to more efficiently and accurately make high-stake decisions.

As making data reports more accessible for non-specialist users continues to empower companies to grow more effectively, efforts in creating applications that support this idea are flourishing. Further global investment of time and money in these applications can be expected in 2017!
